Duplex 2205 stainless steel (ferritic and austenitic) is widely used in applications requiring good corrosion resistance and strength. Grade S31803 stainless steel was modified several times to form UNS S32205, which was recognized in 1996.

It combines the corrosion resistance of Monel K-500 but gives the added advantage of extra strength and hardness (as a result of its age hardening ability).

Although both of these steels are considered low carbon steel alloys, they are quite different. For example, “L” stands for “low” in 316l stainless steel, meaning the alloy has a very low carbon content. The 316l variant is also more resistant to solder corrosion and can withstand higher temperatures than the 316. This is why 316l is often used in marine and architectural projects.

The flanges are furnished in solution heat treated circumstances, thus these are heat treated at 2150 degree F and get cooled rapidly.

Grade 316 is the standard molybdenum grade and is second only to Grade 304 in total production in austenitic stainless steels.
