Nickel Alloy 400 and Monel 400, also known as UNS N04400, is a ductile nickel-copper-based alloy consisting primarily of two-thirds nickel and one-third copper. Nickel Alloy 400 is known for its resistance to a variety of corrosive conditions, including alkalis (or acids), salt water, hydrofluoric acid, and sulfuric acid. Since Monel 400 or Alloy 400 is a cold worked metal, this alloy has high hardness, stiffness and strength. By cold working ASTM B164 UNS N04400 bar stock, the alloy is subjected to higher levels of mechanical stress, which in turn causes changes in the alloy’s microstructure.

Monel 400 is a copper and nickel based alloy that is popular today due to its high performance. The alloy has excellent acid and alkali resistance. In addition, it has good tensile strength, ductility, excellent thermal conductivity, and can be hardened by cold work. Additionally, it can be used in applications with temperatures ranging from minus to 538 degrees Celsius.

Hastelloy G30 is a high performance alloy with surface stability at high temperatures. In the welded form, the corrosion resistance is also carried over. Hastelloy G30 fasteners are highly ductile. Stainless Steel 316 is an austenitic stainless grade with 4% molybdenum in its composition. The content of chromium, nickel and molybdenum makes stainless steel 316 stronger, corrosion resistant and ductile.

Inconel is a superalloy made with high concentrations of nickel, chromium, and molybdenum.

While both 304 and 316 stainless steels are strong, the addition of molybdenum to 316 gives it a slight advantage over 304 in strength. With 316 stainless steel, you can expect better resistance to chloride corrosion and pitting than 304 stainless steel, as well as higher strength at elevated temperatures.
