Nickel Alloy 400 and Monel 400, also known as UNS N04400, is a ductile nickel-copper-based alloy consisting primarily of two-thirds nickel and one-third copper. Nickel Alloy 400 is known for its resistance to a variety of corrosive conditions, including alkalis (or acids), salt water, hydrofluoric acid, and sulfuric acid. Since Monel 400 or Alloy 400 is a cold worked metal, this alloy has high hardness, stiffness and strength. INCONEL alloy 625 is designated as UNS N06625, Werkstoff Number 2.4856 and ISO NW6625 and is listed in NACE MR-01- 75.

The high chromium, molybdenum, and nitrogen levels provide excellent resistance to pitting, crevice, and general corrosion.

Stainless steel 304 has higher chromium and lower carbon content. The carbon content of this steel is as low as 0.03%, thus reducing its susceptibility to intergranular corrosion. This steel can be continuously exposed to temperatures of about 1500¡ãF without significant fouling.

The A335 p12 material composition includes carbon up to 0.05 ¨C 0.15, manganese up to 0.30 ¨C 0.61, sulfur and phosphorus up to 0.025, silicon up to 0.5, chromium 0.80-1.25 and molybdenum up to 0.44-0.65. Resistance to carburization is good. Alloy 601 has also shown good resistance in carbonitriding conditions, if a sufficiently high oxygen partial pressure is present. Incoloy alloys belong to the Inconel family. This means that the alloy can be used at high temperatures. At high temperatures, a problem associated with certain grades of stainless steel is oxidation. The chemical composition of Incoloy 800 fasteners allows them to be used at high temperatures. The higher the carbon content, the more chance they have to withstand high temperatures. Therefore, manufacturers produce derivative alloys of UNS N08800 bolts, called Alloy 800H and Alloy 800HT, which have slightly different chemical compositions.

Stainless steel is an alloy of iron that is resistant to rusting. It contains at least 11% chromium and may contain elements such as carbon, other nonmetals and metals to obtain other desired properties. Stainless steel’s resistance to corrosion results from the chromium, which forms a passive film that can protect the material and self-heal in the presence of oxygen.

Chromium-molybdenum alloy flanges connect pipes, valves, pumps and other equipment to form a piping system. They are ideal for applications that convey corrosive or high temperature fluids or gases.

Grade 316 is the standard molybdenum-bearing grade, second in importance to 304 amongst the austenitic stainless steels. The molybdenum gives 316 better overall corrosion resistant properties than Grade 304, particularly higher resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in chloride environments.

254 SMO Bar is a high alloyed austenitic stainless steel grade. This stainless steel grade has been developed for use in seawater and other media containing corrosive chlorides.

Inconel 718 alloy is also used in industries such as oil and gas drilling and production due to its high tensile strength and good corrosion resistance to chloride-related stress cracking and sulfide-related stress cracking.
