S31803 is the Unified Numbering System (UNS) designation for the original duplex stainless steel. The UNS system was created by multiple trade groups in the 1970s to reduce confusion when the same alloy was called different things, and vice versa. Each metal is represented by a letter followed by five numbers, where the letter represents the metal series, i.e. S for stainless steel.

The UNS S31803 (ASTM F51) specification has been largely superseded by UNS S32205 (1.4462, ASTM F60). In addition, it allows to influence the nitrogen addition level rather than just being present as a background element. Chemically, elements such as manganese, silicon, sulfur, phosphorus, copper, columbium, chromium, carbon, cobalt, molybdenum, niobium, tantalum, titanium, aluminum, iron, nickel, boron, etc. must comply with the normative standard ASTM B670. According to the ASTM B670 specification, Inconel 718 Din 2.4668 Polished Plates must also consider tensile strength, yield strength and elongation requirements. AISI 904L washers are thin flat ring-type assemblies that are bolted between a bolt and a nut to evenly distribute the load on threaded fasteners. Stainless steel 904L washer has excellent resistance to general corrosion, pitting and crevice corrosion in chemicals containing chlorides and sulfuric, phosphoric and nitric acids.
