It has high nickel (24%), molybdenum (6.3%), nitrogen and chromium contents that give it excellent resistance to chloride stress corrosion cracking, chloride pitting, and exceptional general corrosion resistance. AL6XN is primarily used for its improved pitting and crevice corrosion resistance in chlorides. It is a formable and weldable stainless steel.

Steel flanges provide an easy access for cleaning, inspection or modification. They usually come in round shapes but they can also come in square and rectangular forms. ASTM A213 / A269 standard specification is applied for seamless stainless steel tubing, ASTM A249 / A269 for welded tube, with both bright annealing finish and annealing pickling finish, generally, seamless coil tubing can be provided in no risk of impurities that are often associated with welding tube, seamless tubing is the preferred option for critical applications.

One exception, however, are strongly oxidizing acids such as nitric acid. Alloys that contain molybdenum generally do not perform as well in these environments.?

S31803 is the Unified Numbering System (UNS) designation for the original duplex stainless steel. The UNS system was created by multiple trade groups in the 1970s to reduce confusion when the same alloy was called different things, and vice versa. Each metal is represented by a letter followed by five numbers, where the letter represents the metal series, i.e. S for stainless steel.

For paper mill applications requiring lower alloy grades that do not have sufficient corrosion resistance. Based on a 22% chromium content, they have a combined austenitic:ferritic microstructure that provides greater strength, corrosion resistance and cost-effectiveness.

The UNS S31803 (ASTM F51) specification has been largely superseded by UNS S32205 (1.4462, ASTM F60). This reflects their desire to maximize the alloy’s corrosion properties, thanks to the development of the AOD steelmaking process, which allows for tighter control of composition. In addition, it allows to influence the nitrogen addition level rather than just being present as a background element. Therefore, the highest performing duplex grades seek to maximize the content of chromium (Cr), molybdenum (Mo) and nitrogen (N).

Annealing between 1050 and 1080¡ãC can be done after forging, followed by rapid quenching, especially to restore corrosion resistance, but there is no heat treatment to harden 316L.

While heat exchangers require moderate resistance to corrosion and good tensile strength as primary properties, the very versatile SS 304 efw pipe is able to cater to their needs without causing a dent in the buyer¡¯s pocket. Precipitation hardening martensitic stainless steels have comparable corrosion resistance to austenitic grades, but can be precipitation hardened to higher strengths than other martensitic grades. The most common 17-4PH uses about 17% chromium and 4% nickel. The Lockheed-Martin Joint Strike Fighter was the first aircraft to use precipitation-hardenable stainless steel Carpenter Custom 465 in its fuselage.

316L stainless steel seamless tubing is used for more dimensionally precise applications. Less carbide precipitation during pipeline welding reduces intergranular corrosion and localized corrosion. Seamless tubes range from ?” to 16″.

316 and 316L steel plates and tubes have common properties and are often double certified, which confirms that both have properties and compositions consistent with both steel types. The Model 316H was excluded from this because, unlike the 316 and 316L, the 316H was designed to operate at higher operating temperatures.
