Nickel Alloy 400 and Monel 400, also known as UNS N04400, is a ductile nickel-copper-based alloy consisting primarily of two-thirds nickel and one-third copper. Nickel Alloy 400 is known for its resistance to a variety of corrosive conditions, including alkalis (or acids), salt water, hydrofluoric acid, and sulfuric acid. Since Monel 400 or Alloy 400 is a cold worked metal, this alloy has high hardness, stiffness and strength. In S31803, about half of the ferrite grains transform into austenite grains (“islands”) as the material cools to room temperature. The result is a microstructure of approximately 50% austenite and 50% ferrite.

SAE 304 stainless steel is the most common stainless steel. The steel contains both chromium (between 18% and 20%) and nickel (between 8% and 10.5%)[1] metals as the main non-iron constituents. It is an austenitic stainless steel. It is less electrically and thermally conductive than carbon steel. It is magnetic, but less magnetic than steel. Alloy 600 is machinable in both hot and annealed conditions. Due to the large amount of heat generated when machining this alloy, high-speed steel, cast non-ferrous or carbide tools should be used.

The increased nickel content and the inclusion of molybdenum makes grade 316 stainless steel a bit costlier than grade 304 per ounce of material. But where grade 316 stainless proves superior is its increased corrosion resistance¡ªparticularly against chlorides and chlorinated solutions. 316 stainless steel pipe bend contains an addition of molybdenum that gives it improved corrosion resistance. This is particularly apparent for pitting and crevice corrosion in chloride environments.

Incoloy 825 round bar is similar to Alloy 800 bar, but has better resistance to water corrosion. Incoloy 825 round bar has some resistance to oxidizing and reducing acids, stress corrosion cracking, and restricted corrosion such as crevice and pitting corrosion. Alloy 825 is particularly resistant to phosphoric and sulfuric acids.
