Nickel Alloy 400 and Monel 400, also known as UNS N04400, is a ductile nickel-copper-based alloy consisting primarily of two-thirds nickel and one-third copper. Nickel Alloy 400 is known for its resistance to a variety of corrosive conditions, including alkalis (or acids), salt water, hydrofluoric acid, and sulfuric acid. Since Monel 400 or Alloy 400 is a cold worked metal, this alloy has high hardness, stiffness and strength. By cold working ASTM B164 UNS N04400 bar stock, the alloy is subjected to higher levels of mechanical stress, which in turn causes changes in the alloy’s microstructure.

It has high nickel (24%), molybdenum (6.3%), nitrogen and chromium contents that give it excellent resistance to chloride stress corrosion cracking, chloride pitting, and exceptional general corrosion resistance. AL6XN is primarily used for its improved pitting and crevice corrosion resistance in chlorides. It is a formable and weldable stainless steel.

Nickel alloy 825 seamless pipe is particularly resistant to sulfuric and phosphoric acid. Known as WNR 2.4858 seamless pipe, this nickel steel alloy is used in chemical processing, pollution control equipment, oil and gas well piping, nuclear fuel reprocessing, acid production and pickling equipment.

Monel 400 is resistant to steam and sea water as well as highly corrosive solutions such as sulfuric, hydrochloric and hydrofluoric acids after degassing. It has excellent solderability and can withstand very high pressure and weight. The alloy has excellent mechanical properties at sub-zero temperatures, with a melting point of 2370¡ã – 2460¡ã F, and the product can be used at temperatures up to 1000¡ã C.

Alloy steel is steel that is alloyed with a variety of elements in total amounts between 1.0% and 50% by weight to improve its mechanical properties. Alloy steels are broken down into two groups: low alloy steels and high alloy steels. The difference between the two is disputed. Smith and Hashemi define the difference at 4.0%, while Degarmo, et al., define it at 8.0%.[1][2] Most commonly, the phrase “alloy steel” refers to low-alloy steels.

Inconel 718 is a nickel-chromium-molybdenum superalloy designed to resist a variety of severe corrosive environments, crevice corrosion and pitting corrosion. This nickel alloy also exhibits extremely high yield, tensile and creep rupture properties at elevated temperatures. Inconel 718 is intended for long-term use from low temperatures to 1200¡ãF.

ASTM A694 F46 forgings can be made from carbon, low alloy or alloy steel. Steel should be made by open hearth, electric furnace or basic oxygen process and should be fully deoxidized. Its forged flanges and forged fittings can be easily fabricated from ingots, blooms, billets, slabs or bars. All grades of ASTM A694 F46 shall be heat treated. Heat treatment of carbon steels and high strength low alloy steels can include normalizing, normalizing and tempering, or quenching and tempering. The heat treatment of alloy steel may include normalizing and precipitation heat treatment or quenching and precipitation heat treatment.

ASTM specifications recommend a minimum Charpy impact value for ASTM A320 L7 Stud Bolts to be 20-ft-lbf @ -150F. The Charpy impact test determines the total amount of energy that is absorbed by a material during fracture, thereby indicating the material¡¯s notch toughness.

Applications for ASTM a276 Grade 304l round bars must be limited to those applications that require these bars to be joined by welding and do not require excellent tensile strength properties.

Today, Alloy B2 with restricted chemistry can be used in the welded condition and is less susceptible to SCC under many conditions. As always, care must taken in selecting the right alloy for the desired application.

Another feature of HASTELLOY-X fasteners is their excellent forming and welding characteristics. It can be forged and can be cold worked due to its good ductility. Common applications for Hastelloy x include use in aircraft furnaces and chemical process components.

The corrosion resistance of SA 335 P91 seamless pipe is much higher than that of carbon steel. Grade P91 is a reference for the chemical composition of alloy steels. AL6XN screw is a low carbon, high purity, nitrogen containing “super austenitic” stainless steel alloy. AL 6XN threaded rods are super austenitic AL 6XN threaded rods are super austenitic, made from an alloy containing limited carbon content of chromium, nickel and molybdenum. AL 6XN threaded rod is resistant to chloride stress corrosion cracking.

Its strength as well as its resistance to corrosion and stress make Inconel 625 elbow a suitable component of nuclear reactors, particularly in the control rod and reactor core.

Alloy X pipe bend is known for its excellent high temperature strength withstanding up to 2200¡ãF. The alloy can also be easily fabricated with forming and welding characteristics by both manual and automatic methods.

Duplex stainless steels are considered resistant to stress corrosion cracking because they are not as resistant to this form of corrosion as ferritic stainless steels.
