Also known as alloy K500, Monel K500 bolts are comprised of a nickel alloy that combines the outstanding corrosion resistance of Monel 400 with increased strength and hardness.

Monel 400 is resistant to both steam and seawater as well as highly caustic solutions such as sulfuric, hydrochloric, and hydrofluoric acids when they are deaerated.

The addition of copper to this grade gives it better corrosion resistance than conventional chromium-nickel stainless steels, especially against sulfuric, phosphoric and acetic acids. However, the use of hydrochloric acid is limited.

304 covers the standard for wrought austenitic stainless steel pipe fittings for pressure piping applications. The material of pipe fittings shall include forgings, bars, plates or seamless or welded pipes. Forging or forming operations shall be performed by hammering, pressing, piercing, extruding, upsetting, rolling, bending, fusion welding, machining, or a combination of two or more of these operations. All accessories should be heat treated.

Type 316 stainless steel is particularly effective in sour environments. This grade of steel is effective against corrosion caused by sulfuric, hydrochloric, acetic, formic and tartaric acids, as well as acidic sulfates and basic chlorides.

The higher strength results from deliberate control of the carbon, aluminum, and titanium contents in conjunction with a high-temperature anneal.

Carbon steel forgings, manufactured in accordance with ASTM A105, are generally used for piping applications. These forged carbon steel piping components (including flanges, fittings, and valves, etc) are used for ambient- and higher-temperature service in pressure systems. The A105N, which is designated with a suffix ¡°N¡±, denotes that the A105 forging shall be furnished in normalized condition. If the forgings are used for piping applications of ASME BPVC or ASME B31, the material shall be its identical equivalent of SA-105 or SA-105N. In short, the heat treatment of normalization distinguishes A105N from A105, or SA-105N from SA-105. ASTM A105 Flange is a specification of flanges.
