Nickel Alloy 400 and Monel 400, also known as UNS N04400, is a ductile nickel-copper-based alloy consisting primarily of two-thirds nickel and one-third copper. Nickel Alloy 400 is known for its resistance to a variety of corrosive conditions, including alkalis (or acids), salt water, hydrofluoric acid, and sulfuric acid. Since Monel 400 or Alloy 400 is a cold worked metal, this alloy has high hardness, stiffness and strength. By cold working ASTM B164 UNS N04400 bar stock, the alloy is subjected to higher levels of mechanical stress, which in turn causes changes in the alloy’s microstructure.

Type 316/ 316L/316H are austenitic stainless steel intended for use in applications that require high strength, toughness and workability, as well as enhanced corrosion resistance.

These Hastelloy C276 contain a mixture of molybdenum, nickel and chromium species. Like other nickel alloys, it is ductile, easy to form and weld, and has excellent resistance to stress corrosion cracking (a form of easily degradable austenitic stainless steel) in chloride-containing solutions. Due to its high chromium and molybdenum content, it is resistant to oxidizing and non-oxidizing acids and exhibits excellent resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in the presence of chlorides and other halides.

Offshore marine engineering plants need compenents that meet their rugged demands, components that have mammoth strenght but are light weight.

Butt weld flanges are typically used in applications where high pressure is a concern. The inner diameter of the flange is designed to match the inner diameter of the pipe. Stainless steel 316Ti hex head bolts are typically used in areas that can withstand higher temperatures than Type 304, and their low carbon makes them resistant to carbon precipitation. However, like many stainless steels, stainless steel 316Ti hex head bolts are susceptible to warm chlorine environments and can develop pits and cracks.

Different grades of stainless steel also contain trace amounts of different elements. Grade 304 stainless steel contains up to 35% nickel and is used in applications such as appliances, cookware, plumbing and hardware. Copper-nickel alloys, also known as Cu-Ni, have excellent corrosion resistance, especially in marine saltwater environments. Copper-nickel alloys typically selected for seawater components and service equipment contain 10% to 30% nickel.

Duplex 2205 is a nitrogen enhanced duplex stainless steelthat was developed to combat common corrosion problems encountered with the 300 series stainless steels. ¡°Duplex¡± describes a family of stainless steels that are neither fully austenitic, like 304 stainless, nor purely ferritic, like 430 stainless. The structure of 2205 duplex stainless steel consists of austenite pools surrounded by a continuous ferrite phase. In the annealed condition, 2205 contains approximately 40-50% ferrite. Often referred to as the work horse grade, 2205 is the most widely used grade in the duplex family of stainless steels.

The Inconel 625 is highly resistant against corrosion and oxidations mediums in various environments.

The flange is second most used joining method after selding. Flanges are used when joints need dismantling. It provides flexibility for maintenance. Flange connects the pipe with various equipment and valves. Breakup flanges are added in the pipeline system if regular maintenance in required during plant operation.
A flanged joint is composed of three separate and independent although interrdlated components; the flanges, the gaskets, and the bolting; which are assembled by yet another influence, the fitter. Special controls are required in the selection and application of all there elements to attain a joint, which has acceptable leak tightness.
A flange is a protruded ridge, lip or rim, either external or internal, that serves to increase strength (as the flange of an iron beam such as an I-beam or a T-beam); for easy attachment/transfer of contact force with another object (as the flange on the end of a pipe, steam cylinder, etc., or on the lens mount of a camera); or for stabilizing and guiding the movements of a machine or its parts (as the inside flange of a rail car or tram wheel, which keep the wheels from running off the rails). The term “flange” is also used for a kind of tool used to form flanges.
