AL6XN is a superaustenitic stainless steel with outstanding resistance to chloride pitting, crevice corrosion and stress corrosion cracking. AL6XN is a 6 moly alloy that was developed for and is used in highly aggressive environments. It has high nickel (24%), molybdenum (6.3%), nitrogen and chromium contents that give it excellent resistance to chloride stress corrosion cracking, chloride pitting, and exceptional general corrosion resistance. AL6XN is primarily used for its improved pitting and crevice corrosion resistance in chlorides. It is a formable and weldable stainless steel.

This provides greatly enhanced resistance to sulfuric acid. It also has a high chromium content, to maximize its resistance to oxidizing chemicals and process streams contaminated with ferric ions and dissolved oxygen.

UNS N08367 also commonly referred to as alloy AL6XN is a low carbon, high purity, nitrogen-bearing “super-austenitic” nickel-molybdenum alloy with excellent resistance to chloride pitting and crevice corrosion.

AL-6XN alloy is easy to weld using similar parameters as Type 316L stainless steel, including travel speed (IPM) and weld current. It is common to use a weld insert ring for additional alloying when orbital or manual welding in the field.

SAE 304 stainless steel is the most common stainless steel. The steel contains both chromium (between 18% and 20%) and nickel (between 8% and 10.5%)[1] metals as the main non-iron constituents. Alloy K500 studs are threaded rods with threads on both ends. They can be of different types depending on thread distance from center and thread type. These values are twice as strong as level 304.

Duplex stainless steels are Fe-Ni-Cr alloys consisting of ferritic-austenitic microstructure at room temperature. These steels generally possess beneficial combinations of the austenitic and ferritic phases. Duplex stainless steels exhibit greater toughness and better weldability than ferritic stainless steel (Nilsson, 1992). They have higher strength and better corrosion resistance than austenitic stainless steel (Atamert and King, 1992). Duplex stainless steels combine characteristics of the austenitic and ferritic family of alloys to offer benefits from both with fewer downsides — often at a lower cost than other steel alloys.
Duplex stainless steels have a combination of two phases, ferrite and austenite in approximately equal measure. This allows them to benefit from the advantages of both austenitic and ferritic stainless steels, leading to increased strength, improved weldability, higher toughness and resistance to several types of corrosion.
