In short, the heat treatment of normalization distinguishes A105N from A105, or SA-105N from SA-105. ASTM A105 Flange is a specification of flanges. S31803 is the Unified Numbering System (UNS) designation for the original duplex stainless steel. The UNS system was created by multiple trade groups in the 1970s to reduce confusion when the same alloy was called different things, and vice versa. Each metal is represented by a letter followed by five numbers, where the letter represents the metal series, i.e. S for stainless steel.

The UNS S31803 (ASTM F51) specification has been largely superseded by UNS S32205 (1.4462, ASTM F60). C276 is forged between 2250/1750oF (1230/955oC) and then soaked at the forging temperature for 30 minutes per inch of billet or ingot section thickness. Forging should begin immediately, the billet is removed from the reheat furnace, a 25/40% reduction helps retain as much internal heat as possible.
