A234 Grade WPB is the most common material used for medium and high temperature pipelines. W means weldable, P means pressure, B is grade b, refer to the minimum yield strength.

ASTM A234 Wpb Long Radius Elbow Vs ASME Sa234 Wpb Short Radius Elbow

These WPB elbows are designed in long and short radius and can be distinguished from certain key features.

ASTM A234 Gr Wpb Long Elbow is designed with a radius of curvature that is 1.5 times its outer diameter. ASME Sa234 Gr Wpb short radius elbow has a radius of curvature that is equal to the outer diameter of the module.

ASTM long elbows are used in non-pressurized vessels. ASME short radius elbow grades are preferred in pressurized vessel grades.

Long radius elbows perform well in stress-induced applications when compared to a short radius elbow.

Short radius elbows are preferred in tighter spots, while the long elbows are not preferred in tighter spaces.
